Explanation of USALS What does USALS stand for? USALS stands for Universal Satellite Automatic Location System What does USALS do? USALS mathematically calculates where a satellite is located. As part of the installation process the client or engineer enters the Longitude & Latitude of the Dish site. This information together with the Pre-installed data which tells the mount where each satellite is in the sky means that after these values are entered the mount can move to where any satellite is positioned. Why is this such a big benefit? It's quicker and easier to locate, all satellites and new satellites can be found without guesswork. Simply send the Dish to the first Satellite (usually one near the centre of the arc. (one which closely corresponds to the Dish location Longitude). The move the whole mount around the pole having fist set the mount to the correct longitude and set the declination of the dish correct for the location. All good satellite stores can give you the latitude of your location from your post code or use a tool like "Microsoft Encarta". click here for a declination chart for you latitude The DiSEqC 1.2 TM Protocol which is the building block of USALS allows single cable operation because the gearing of the USALS mount has far greater accuracy.
